Get involved

It’s easy to feel helpless when we hear about all the alcohol and other drug problems facing our society. But the good news is that every community member has a real opportunity to make a difference in their local area through joining a Community Drug Action Team.

NSW Health extends CEAP contract

As part of its continuing commitment to working in primary prevention across Australia, the Alcohol and Drug Foundation is proud to confirm that the Community Engagement Action Program, which includes more than 70 CDATs across NSW, has been extended for an additional two years, from 2017 to 2019.

This means that we will continue with the work we have been doing in NSW in the last four years and build on existing relationships and partnerships in Greater Sydney, Southern and Eastern NSW, Hunter & New England, Western NSW, Central Coast, North and Mid-North Coast NSW and everywhere in between. The CDAT program has a long history, with many CDATs still operating since the program’s inception in 1999. The last two years especially, has seen a significant shift in CDAT partnerships, with groups of CDATs, and in some cases whole regions, taking on a number of exciting project as part of our grant funding programs.

The intent over the next two years is to focus even more on partnerships and supporting the CDATs through their networks to engage with local/regional stakeholders, provide them with evidence-informed research and examples of activities, offer streamlined and easy-to-complete funding and more. The NSW staff, which includes the SCDOs looking after CDATs and their members in each region, are excited and look forward to another two years of grants, AOD activities, planning meetings, regional meetings and more.

Over the coming months there will be more information going out to CDAT members with information about ADF engagement with CDATs, announcement of new grant rounds (the next round is expected towards the end of 2017), project work, tools and resources, etc., so do watch this space!

Projects

Funding and grants
The Alcohol and Drug Foundation (ADF) allocates funding to community groups in NSW through the Community Engagement and Action Program (CEAP) that’s funded by the NSW Government. At the core of this program are the Community Drug Action Teams (CDATs). These volunteer-led teams operate across the state and work together to reduce alcohol and other drug harms in their local communities.

The CEAP grants program provides financial support to CDATs by helping the teams deliver projects and reimbursing them for the costs associated with CDAT operations.
Please find a list of Core and Partnership/Project grant funded activities across nearly 70 CDATs from the 2017 grant round below:
